2004 Wimbledon champion, Maria Sharapova, advanced to the finals after defeating Sabine Lisicki in straight sets 6-4 and 6-3. This is his first final at Wimbledon since winning Wimbledon seven years ago.
Sharapova got the Lisicki 0-3 up but then managed to beat lisicki in the first 26 minutes. Lisicki not seem capable of displaying the usual game, which became a surprise in the championship this year.While Sharapova made it back into the game and controlled the game.
Both players seem to struggle in the service and to record 13 times Sharapova double-faults but the game clearly superior to Lisicki. After recovering from a shoulder injury that threatened his career-seeded Sharapova has won Wimbledon 2011.
"It's amazing return to the finals, after quite a long time," he said after the game.
"I am very happy today even though I do not show the best games. She played very well in some games early and I'm just the opposite, but I stay focused."
For several years after winning Wimbledon, Sharapova failed to escape from the fourth round but eventually he returned to reach the final.
In the final, Sharapova will face the Czech tennis player, Petra Kvitova, who beat Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals.
Although more favored, Sharapova claimed the final match will be tight. "Kvitova is a good player on grass and he played very good tennis, will be a tight match and I am impatiently waiting for," Sharapova said.
