French player Franck Ribery had to be taken off the field in a golf cart after injuring himself during a Bayern Munich training session today, the German club stated.
Ribery, who has been beset with wounds since joining the Bundesliga giants in 2007, fell to the ground in a challenge and was taken away with his left ankle hard bandaged and still visibly in hurt, Bayern Munich told.
"I slipped in a challenge and my foot cracked," the 28-year-old winger stated. "At first I was really frighted. I thought I had torn my ligaments."
However, Bayern breathed a sigh of relief when medics determined that the injury wasn't severe. Ribery will be out of action for one week and could be back for a German Cup match versus Eintracht Braunschweig on 1 August.
Bayern breathed a sigh of relief Sunday after an injury sustained by French international Franck Ribery in pre-season training turned out to be not as dangerous as feared.
Ribery will miss the pre-season Audi Cup, though, in Munich involving UEFA Champions League winners Barcelona, AC Milan and Brazil's Porto Alegre on Tuesday and Wednesday.
