Angry Inter Manager Gasperini hit out at his critics for making an issue out of his formation following Inter shock 1-0 home UEFA Champions League defeat to Trabzonspor (Turkey).
Having started as top seeds Inter now sit bottom of Group B after the 1st round of matches with rank-outsiders Trabzonspor top.
Gasperini played a three-man defence in the 4-3 lose at Palermo on Sunday but following a media storm took to plump for a conventional back four at the San Siro. They may have been more secure at the back but their attack for sure suffered.
"All the discussions over the last few days had little value, all it did was make a lot of confusion," he told. "As for the rest, it was different to the Palermo match, we'd many opportunities but we did not aim them. They scored from the only opportunity they had which determined this negative result. On top of that it started from offside, for sure we have not been lucky in this time but this was a much better performance than the other night.
"When a team like Inter loses it is normal to be criticised but the quality of discussion in these days was not normal. It seems as if it is been conducted by people who've never spoken about football before. It is wrong to turn it into a debate about 3 or 4 at the back."
And Gasperini was adamant that he had not been put under pressure to change his formation, despite Inter president Massimo Moratti saying the day before that he expected his coach to change system. "No-one pushed me to pick one formation or another, that's a total invention, all I did was try to correct the mistakes (from Sunday)," stated Gasperini.
"Two defeats hurt, even if tonight's was for different reasons. Sunday's was not a perfect blow-out, in the 2nd half we made a lot of errors.
"Our interpretation of the game was not right as we conceded too many counters, maybe also due to our desire to win. We played differently today, we have many options and we can still do very well in the league."
