Valentino Rossi set a target to continue the positive momentum from the results in the Le Mans Circuit, France, on 15 May, when for the first time on the podium with Ducati. "The Doctor" would like to repeat these encouraging results when returning to one of his favorite circuits on the MotoGP motorcycle racing, Grand Prix Catalunya, this weekend.
Last year Rossi spent the race in Catalunya because of injuries suffered a broken leg. However, in 2009 seven times MotoGP world champion has recorded a phenomenal victory since defeating teammate at Yamaha, Jorge Lorenzo, on the last bend before the finish-is one of six victories at this track. So, naturally if the Italian rider is quite optimistic to welcome the fifth series of the 2011 MotoGP.
"Catalan Grand Prix is one of the best in this season, for a number of reasons: Barcelona is a beautiful city, the track is very good-probably the second favorite after Mugello, and finally, as always happens in the Spanish race, spectators filled the stands by fans were very enthusiastic, "said the former Honda and Yamaha rider.
"I am very happy to return to the track since only be able to watch the race from my house last year. I have always been pretty strong on the track so that you have many sweet memories, the latter is the victory of 2009 after doing battle with Lorenzo's exciting," continued the 33-year-old rider.
In the last race at Le Mans, Rossi managed to finish in third place. This is his best result since joining Ducati at the start of the 2011 season. He is entitled to occupy that position after the duo's Honda rider Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Marco Simoncelli (Gresini Honda), touched each other while gaining the second position. Rossi rate, it is the result of good work against the Desmosedici GP11.
"We are very motivated and worked hard for the motor, step by step, we can see it, that there is progress. We know, there is still much work to be completed, but we still need to try to get closer to that in the future," said Rossi, who just ride a Ducati 2012 in testing at Mugello.
"The update that we have done against the GP11 has allowed us to step forward, but our goal, of course, continue to increase because we still have a gap that must be cut," said Team Manager Vittoriano Guareschi.
"Valentino started to feel his physical condition began to improve and therefore, the feedback he gave us could do with more precise development. We work with short deadlines, either at the factory or the track, but we do our best to provide a competitive engine for the Our rider. "
Optimistic tone also comes from the mouth Nicky Hayden. Rossi's teammate-who managed to climb the podium at Catalunya in 2006, who participated brought success to the MotoGP world championship that year (along with Repsol Honda)-says that the race in Spain is always fun.
"Every race in Spain festive, not least in Catalunya," said Hayden. "This is a great track. I was able to ascend the podium in 2006 despite never achieve such a desirable outcome in recent years, especially last season. I look forward to it. Two weeks of rest is better, but I enjoyed the season," said United States rider.
Until the fourth series, the Ducati rider is still unable to compete with Honda and Yamaha. Rossi for a while it is ranked fifth of the standings, while Hayden, who also managed to rank third on the podium in Jerez, in the sixth position.
