Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss, died at age 80 on Monday (2/18/2013) morning . Buss died of kidney failure.
"Buss hospitalized because of cancer, but the immediate cause of death was kidney failure," said Lakers spokesman, Bob Steiner, Monday (18/02/2013). Buss died in the hospital where he underwent treatment for this, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, in Los Angeles.
Jerry Buss bought the LA Lakers in 1979 and made basketball the most loved sport in southern California, which later spread to the world.
With the leadership of Jerry Buss and lavish spending, the Lakers won five championships during the 1980's. The Lakers also won five championships in 11 years Kobe Bryant's career heyday, still under the ownership of Jerry Buss.
