Novak Djokovic is not able to get through tough odds, advanced tournaments on the ATP World Tour Finals. In qualifying Group A match on Wednesday (23.11.11), against David Ferrer, the world number one is giving up two sets 3-6, 1-6. These results make sure self Ferrer qualify for the semifinals, after the Spanish fifth seed recorded two victories.
Earlier, Ferrer beat world number three Andy Murray, who eventually withdrew from this event because of injury. As for Djokovic, he must determine his own fate when diving final group stage match against compatriot of Serb, Janko Tipsarevic, who replaced Murray's position.
They will fight one ticket left over from Group A, to advance to the last four ATP World Tour Finals which takes place at the indoor court O2 Arena, London. "I think today might be my best game this season," said Ferrer.
As for Djokovic, who appeared charming in early 2011 with a fantastic record, which won three Grand Slams and 10 titles overall, admitted his game is very bad. This is what makes him have to defeat fifth this year.
"Honestly, this is the worst game I played in this season," said Djokovic, who recorded 70 victories during the year 2011.
Regarding his chances against Tipsarevic, Djokovic quite optimistic. But he expects better performance than when against Ferrer. "If I do not play at least 50 percent better than tonight, I think my chances are not there. You must always hope tomorrow will bring something better. That's what I was thinking."
Meanwhile, Tipsarevic has certainly failed to qualify. The reason, he lost the match three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (6) against Tomas Berdych, who defeated Djokovic in the opening match. From Group B, defending champion Roger Federer has already secured their progress to the semifinals.
The Swiss superstar has recorded two wins, each over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Rafael Nadal. The remaining tickets up for grabs Tsonga and Nadal will face each other.
