FC Bayern warmed up for next week's trip to Villarreal in the Champions League with a 7-0 win over Freiburg as Mario Gomez and midfielder Franck Ribery starred.
German striker Gomez, last season's top scorer in the Bundesliga, made 4 goals - including a second-half hat-trick - to take his tally up to 8 in the league after just 5 games.
Not to be out-done, Ribery netted double in the 1st half as part of an eye-catching display with the Frenchman demonstrating great footwork, particularly for his 1st goal when he left 2 defenders standing.
Bayern successor Nils Petersen benefitted from the Munich midfield's complete control when he made the 7th just before the final whistle. Munich are at Villarreal on Wednesday in Group A of the Champions League and are in impressive form.
"We did not see a lot of Freiburg, which was mainly due to my team," said Jupp Heynckes. "We were 3-0 up at half-time, but we still went for goals in the 2nd half. That's important because it displays the character in the team.
"What delights me the most is that all the players are working hard in defence, but I am still confident we can play better football game, especially when we face heavier opponents."
The rout leaves Bayern top of the league and with just over a month gone of the new season, they already have a goal difference of 15. Regardless of results elsewhere they'll end the weekend as German Bundesliga leaders.

Gomez is right on track for Bundesliga top scorers and also leading European top scorers list together with Wayne Rooney, both at 8 goals. I think this season more than 40 goals will be needed to clinch European golden boot,
