Maria Sharapova withdrew from Brisbane International

The Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova withdrew from the Brisbane International tournament because it still suffered an ankle injury.

 
Even so, Sharapova will still ensure follow the Australian Open grand slam tournament in mid-January 2012.

"Actually I wanted to start the 2012 season at the Brisbane International tournament that has a good reputation as a tournament early (years)," said Sharapova. "Unfortunately the condition of my ankle has not recovered 100 percent and I can not immediately recover this year."

But the Wimbledon champion, U.S. Open and Australian Open is sure to join Australian Open in Melbourne starting January 16. "I'll be ready for the first grand slam tournament next year."

Brisbane International tournament will take place January 1 to 8 and will be followed by the top female tennis players like Serena Williams, Samantha Stosur and Kim Clijsters.
