Philippine military confers the rank of lieutenant colonel reservist to the world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
However, Pacquiao is also a member of Congress apparently did not have to fight. He received the honorary promotions during a ceremony at the Philippine Army headquarters in Manila.
Philippine Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista said the conferment of this rank are expected to give insiprasi to other Filipino men.
"His figure may help the recruitment of Filipino fighters to join the army reserve because we are eager to build this force as a power with world-class quality and will become the pride of the country," said Bautista.
Pacquiao has been registered as a reservist with the rank of sergeant in 2006. He then received a promotion to sergeant major in 2009.
However, the military denied a promotion is linked to performance in the world of boxing. "A congressman is equivalent to the reserve army with the rank of lieutenant colonel."
