Rafael Nadal tennis player, skier Lindsey Vonn and Spanish soccer team won Laureus awards as the best in the world of sports.
Nadal, ranked one of the world, won three grand slam titles last year. He was elected as the best male athlete beating NBA star, Kobe Bryant, the Philippine boxer, Manny Pacquiao and Barcelona football star, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
Nadal is currently recovering from a foot injury suffered during a match at the Australian Open quarterfinals, the end of January. This injury also thwart his ambition to win four grand slam titles in a row.
"(Last season) is a season full of emotion, especially after having a difficult time in 2009 and then," said Nadal. "I'm having trouble in Australia (2010), before finding my best game by winning Roland Garros in 2010," he said again. "It then becomes much easier ...."
Vonn won the downhill was chosen because of his achievements in Vancouver and three times world champion. He put aside other famous names like Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters from the world of tennis.
While the Spanish national team was chosen because they are capable of becoming world champion during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Spain became the world champion for the first time by beating the Netherlands 1-0 in the final goal by Andres Iniesta.
French football legend, Zinedine Zidane was awarded the lifetime (life time achievement), while seven-time world champion, Valentino Rossi was also awarded the best come back.
